Smells hot, tastes raw and sharp, with blackberry and cherry tea flavors that seem artificially sweetened. This is a pretty clumsy wine. 1 Note

This is a lesser-known bottling from this superstar producer. Dark purple/black with classic spicy, intense fruit. Not too jammy; winemaker Joel Peterson gets the essence of the fruit without turning it into raspberry/blackberry preserves. It sits on the palate and sings for a long time. 1 Note

Loaded with blackberry, this mid-priced offering has stably, spicy aromas topping the fruit on the nose, and peppery oak additions in the mouth. Medium to full in the mouth, it closes with anise and a tangy metallic-pepper note. On the dark side, and Cab-like in size and texture. 1 Note

Really funky (that's good funky, not skunky-funky) nose shows plum, nutmeg, burned sugar, chalk and a slight "fresh-picked garden vegetable" note. Bright palate flavors are mostly more of the same: plum, caramel, oak and a little smoke. Zingy in the mouth, though slightly minerally, it finishes with burned caramel and oak flavors. Heady, but that's what Zinfandel is for, right? 1 Note

A big bruiser with youthful wild berry, sage and earth flavors and hefty tannins. Has the jamminess and sharp acids of a young wine. Drink with rich meats, tomato sauce and olive oil. 1 Note
