One of Ravenswood’s single-vineyard offerings, the Dickerson has explosive blueberry, blackberry and eucalyptus flavors, spiced up a bit with black pepper. A sweet-spicy, rich blackberry, white pepper and eucalyptus bouquet starts things off; toasty oak and tannic, blackberry-skin flavors draw the wine to a lingering close. A button-pusher, though perhaps a bit too big for some folks. —D.M. 1 Note

Deep chalk, forest floor and stewy red berry aromas morph into homey wheat and burnt sugar notes after a few minutes in the glass. Earthy in the mouth, it has subtle cedar, black cherry and blackberry notes and a well-balanced but not-so-velvety, gritty-earth mouthfeel. Tannins give the Teldeschi lots of texture on the finish—its charred, even unfiltered-textured finale outlasts even the blackberry flavors. Not huge, and has lots of character. 1 Note

I’ve never had a less than satisfying Belloni Zin from Ravenswood, but this is certainly the ripest in memory. It’s almost a dessert, with melted milk chocolate, cassis, blueberry, red cherry and peppery spice flavors. Yet it remains dry, with the fine acid-tannin balance the vineyard is noted for. 1 Note

One of Ravenswood’s most dependable Zins, this contains a good proportion of Petite Sirah, making it ripe and full-bodied. In a warm vintage like ’04, the wine is almost Porty, with strong blackberry, plum, stewed prune, plumped raisin and peppery spice flavors. Yet it remains dry and balanced. Best with rich barbecues and roasts. 1 Note
