A bit floral or herbal on the nose, but there’s also plenty of vibrant cherry fruit that broadens out on the midpalate, giving a nice feeling of fat. Soft tannins are accented by touches of black tea and anise on the black cherry finish. Imported by Broadbent Selections, Inc. 1 Note

Spy Valley is turning out consistently good wines across the range, and the 2008 Pinot Noir is a notable achievement in the context of the vintage. It’s plump and silky in the mouth, with bright cherry fruit accented by subtle vanilla and spice. Drink it over the next couple of years. 1 Note

This medium-bodied, slightly herbal Pinot Noir would have scored higher had the finish been longer. That’s really the only knock against this otherwise silky, dark-fruited Pinot. 1 Note

Spy Valley isn’t particularly known for its Chardonnays, but this is a toasty, creamy, lush example that should turn some heads. Melon, apple, citrus and pineapple fruit is all wrapped in a cushion of oak, making for a soft, easy-drinking wine. Drink it over the next year or so. 1 Note

Spy Valley’s 2007 Envoy Pinot Noir is an attractive wine, featuring an exterior of brown sugar, dry leaves and coffee and a fruit-filled cherry center. The only concern is the slightly drying finish and some slightly coarse, rustic tannins. If those resolve gracefully, this rating may look stingy in 3 years’ time. 1 Note

Spy Valley packs an awesome punch with big citrus, and tropical fruit. Aromas include an array of citrus such as orange and grapefruit, the latter being dominant, and a big grapefruit flavor that dissipates into mango and perhaps some star fruit. Wonderful acidity, structure, and balance makes this Sauv Blanc well-rounded. We paired this wine with lemon peppered cat fish, and it couldn’t have been better. Wine Spectator gave it 91 points and it’s a steal at $14. Highly Recommended.
