There’s lots of charm in this classic Napa Cab. It opens with aromas of black currants, espresso and tobacco, and has a nice edge of toasty oak. Dry and smooth, with attractive berry flavors and soft tannins. —S.H. 1 Note

Ripe, tangy pineapple fruit plays nicely against rich butterscotch and maple syrup notes in this attractive white. On the palate, the flavors turn more to green apple and pear, with chalk and lemon providing tension and interest. Lively acidity supports the fruit well; although there’s plenty of oak, it’s not overbearing. 1 Note

Someone (we suspect Mother Nature) pumped the wattage into this big-boned Pinot, which is about fruit, fruit and nothing but the fruit—maybe to a fault. Heavy-duty black-cherry aromas lead into a jammy palate chock full of yet more blackberry and cherry. We like the verve but also wonder about complexity, which isn’t very high on the meter right now. 1 Note

I like this Chardonnay for its streamlined green apple flavors, which have been tarted up as much as possible by lots of new oak and sur lies aging. These contribute creamy, smoky and sweet and sour cream nuances to an acidic wine obviously built for food, rather than by-itself hedonism. 1 Note

This is a good, dry, somewhat rugged Cabernet, rich in varietal blackberry and black currant flavors with a coating of smoky oak. It’s fully ready to drink now. Shows real elegance in the refined mouthfeel, and the spicy finish is a delight. 1 Note
