Te Awa Sauvignon Blanc -2006 (WE-69511)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A lovely departure from most New Zealand Sauvignons, Te Awa’s version offers ripe fruit—peaches and nectarines—brushed with a touch of oak. Relatively full-bodied, with grilled-fruit flavors that bring summer immediately to mind. 1 Note

Te Awa Syrah -2002 (WE-51810)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

The opening aromas feature a hint of white pepper, but the emphasis is on ripe blackberries. That ripe character carries over to the texture, which features lush, creamy fruit that retains a sense of freshness. Dusty tannins on the finish suggest some ageability; drink now–2010, or possibly even longer. Imported by R O Imports. 1 Note

Te Awa Sauvignon Blanc -2005 (WE-62050)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A distinctly different style of Sauvignon Blanc than that found in Marlborough, this is riper and rounder, with more potential for evolution in the bottle. Notes of citrus custard mark the bouquet, while the flavors veer toward melon and fig, with hints of peach or nectarine. It’s velvety textured, and long on the finish. 1 Note

Te Awa Chardonnay -2004 (WE-51808)

Why can’t more New World Chardonnay taste like this? Barrel fermentation has imparted a toasty, nutty richness without dominating the ripe peaches and tropical fruit. There’s no malolactic fermentation and hence no buttery notes, but instead the fruit shines on the finish, offering up hints of Mandarin oranges and pineapple. Imported by R O Imports. 1 Note

Full, Lush

Te Awa Chardonnay -2004 (W-126)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This one's got it all. Fullness, richness, complexity, with a good, crisp acidity to hold it all together. It's got the lushness reminiscent of an oaked California Chardonnay, with the restaint of a very good Alsatian. The flavor goes through two or three different phases on the tongue. A lovely wine. 15 Notes

Te Awa Sauvignon Blanc -2007 (WE-93221)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

The style of Te Awa’s Sauvignon Blanc has remained refreshingly true to its Hawke’s Bay origins, combining ripe fruit with a proportion of barrel fermentation to yield a wine with stone-fruit flavors, a rich texture and hints of vanilla. It should hold at least 3–4 years—unusually long by NZ Savvy standards. 1 Note
