Te Awa Sauvignon Blanc -2006 (W-911)

Bottlenotes' tasting notes are right on. Really nicely balanced, although surprisingly more fruity than I expected. Perhaps a bit too fruity for my tastes. Interesting complexity though -- some surprising flavors. Went nicely with both the antipasto & halibut. 2 Notes

Did not wow us. Was light, but lacked character and some citrus we like in whites. 2 stars with price factored in. 2 Notes

Te Awa Bordeaux-style Red Blend -2001 (WE-51811)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This top-level red is more complex than the other Te Awa wines, blending tobacco and black olive aromas with savory flavors of earth and leather. There’s also a core of black cherries, a creamy texture and an elegant finish. Drink or hold 2–3 years. Imported by R O Imports. 1 Note

Te Awa Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot -2007 (WE-110328)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A top-flight Cab-Merlot from Hawkes Bay, Te Awa’s 2007 is loaded with plum and cassis, dressed up by elegant oak-derived notes of vanilla and baking spices. It’s full-bodied, lush and layered in texture, with a long velvety finish. So good now, the only question is how long it will last. Drink now–2015. 1 Note

Te Awa Syrah -2004 (WE-62087)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Like many Hawke’s Bay producers, Te Awa is experimenting with Syrah; this bottling features bold blackberry fruit with just a hint of peppery spice. Big, round and lush in the mouth, it’s easy to drink and easy to like. Better still is the Zone 2 Syrah (aged in no new oak) that has been bottled separately—limited quantities of that wine may be available this fall. 1 Note
