Thomas Fogarty Cabernet Sauvignon -2003 (WE-81437)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Even at 4 1⁄2 years of age, this is still a tannic, acidic and drily lean wine. It’s definitely not one of those big, jammy, soft Cabs. Shows subtle flavors of currants, cassis, tea, cola and oak. Mid-term aging might soften the tannins, but it’s a gamble. 1 Note

Thomas Fogarty Cabernet Sauvignon -2003 (WE-81438)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

To begin with, it’s a very fine, well-structured Cab, rich and vibrant in cassis and smoky oak flavors. It shows the deep integrity that the best Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernets possess. However, it’s quite tannic, which gives it a palate astringency. So, will it age? Odds are strongly in favor of it. Best 2009–2015. 1 Note

Thomas Fogarty Pinot Noir -2008 (WE-129081)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This Pinot Noir needs a few years in the cellar to mellow, although you can decant it now to let it breathe. It’s very rich in cherries, raspberries, licorice and sweet, smoky oak, with a soft, silky texture. Shows a real sense of sophistication. 1 Note

This is a very nice Pinot Noir for drinking soon. It’s dry, silky and somewhat earthy and herbal, but turns rich in cherries toward the finish. Feels elegant and complex all the way through. 1 Note

Thomas Fogarty Syrah -2004 (WE-72336)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

The wine suffers from a cooked or baked quality that pushes the cassis into Port. Great vineyard, not so good vintage. 1 Note

Thomas Fogarty Cabernet Sauvignon -2004 (WE-86661)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This vineyard is the source of tannic, impressive Cabs for Thomas Fogarty. The ’06, which is 97% varietal, is extremely ripe in currant and unsweetened chocolate flavors, and very smooth in tannins. But it’s also very high in alcohol. Hard to tell where it’s going. 1 Note

Thomas Fogarty Syrah -2003 (WE-56931)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

It’s midnight black, thoroughly dry, high in alcohol, and distinctive for the power and authority of its fruity structure. Anyone can achieve ripeness, but this wine’s dry balance really makes it special. The tannins ensure a long life. Drink now through 2015. 1 Note

Thomas Fogarty Cabernet Sauvignon -2001 (WE-37614)

These mountains seem to give Cab that extra nudge of ripeness and balance that makes the best of them supreme. It’s incredibly rich in black currant and sweet cassis, and the smoky edge of oak is perfect. You can hardly keep your hands off it, but try aging until its 10th birthday and beyond. 1 Note

From a Santa Cruz Mountains-based winery that knows how to craft an ageworthy Cab. A young wine, solid in tannins, but dry and well balanced. Oozes beautiful, juicy black currant fruit. Best with a sirloin steak, or age through 2010 and beyond. 1 Note

Dry and rough even at the age of eleven years, this sparkling wine is marked by flavors of yeast and citrus fruits. It’s not going anywhere, so drink up. 1 Note
