A medium-bodied blend that contains 8% Viognier, the 2007 Y Series S-V features slightly lifted aromas of sour plum and tea leaves, while the flavors include an herbal, drying component and a crisp finish. Not the soft, lush fruit bomb typical for the price point, and notable for that, which will serve it well alongside grilled burgers or lamb chops. 1 Note

Honeysuckle, almond and ripe pear aromas open to a mouth full of pear and white-peach flavors and a hint of lime. Has a fairly rich feel on the palate, and the wine closes with mild tartness and a slight chalky note. 1 Note

Much better than last year’s offering, the ’02 is a bouncy, easy-drinking Grenache, with flavors that veer more toward plum and earth than high-toned cherry, as it sometimes does. Earth plays a major role on the nose, too. A fun, please-everyone wine. 1 Note

Forward, if maybe a bit fuzzy. Aromas of overripe tropical fruit, orange and smoke. Fat and rather sweet, with cooked pear and vanillin on the palate. Needs livelier fruit or higher acidity to wake it up. 1 Note

From 20-year-old vines, this Grenache isn’t a lush wine—rather, its red fruit is heartily dosed in char, from the nose through the finish. The pleasant creamy-butterscotchy flavors only make the fruit that much harder to enjoy. 1 Note

Nectarine and grapefruit aromas are bright and focused; yellow stone fruit is the palate focus. Medium in body, but leans up by the close, with citrus pith and peach skin flavors. A good wine. 1 Note

From old head-pruned vines, this full-bodied red wine satisfies despite a certain one-dimensionality. The flavors are rich in cherries, the tannins are thick but fine, and the wine is very dry. It has an attractive suppleness that feels good on the palate. 1 Note

This represents a top value among Viogniers, which often carry a price tag loftier than their quality deserves. Not so in this case; the variety’s floral aromas are well displayed, backed by hints of melon, apricot and gingery spice.
