Cheese in the Summer Breeze

Cheese in the Summer Breeze
Summer wine pairings with Swiss cheese

wine-and-cheese_400.How could you possibly improve upon a summer filled with wine, sun, and relaxing outdoors? What about the enticing aroma and taste of artisan Swiss cheese? We at the Daily Sip recently tasted some excellent cheeses from Switzerland that we think would make for great summer wine pairings. Some of the best cheese in the world comes from Switzerland, and it’s easily available in the US, making it a great addition to your next get-together.

The SwissAlp Panorama, for example, would be great for a party, available here and at local grocery stores. This is a semi-soft cheese aged a minimum of four months. It’s coated in herbs, and has both tangy and herbal flavors. It would pair well with a red wine like gamay, zinfandel, or pinot noir.

Additionally, a Gruyere cheese is always a good choice, because it can pair with a wide variety of wines. Try this one, a hard cheese from Switzerland with a spicy flavor and whole milk taste. Gruyere cheeses go well with reds like merlot and pinot noir, but also with dry whites like sauvignon blanc and chardonnay.
