DIY Irish Cream Liqueur

DIY Irish Cream Liqueur

Resolutions don’t start until next week, so celebrate the last week of 2016 with one of the most decadent DIY hacks: homemade Irish cream liqueur.

The store bought stuff already lands in guilty pleasure territory—sweet, rich, cozy, and comforting — it’s the drink equivalent of a Snuggie. But to indulge in making it at home? That’s taking it to the next level.

As with most DIY projects, what you lose in convenience, you gain in control. Feel free to experiment with the recipe below, swapping in almond extract for vanilla, or fruit liqueurs for cocoa.

Whip up a batch to serve as a super easy after dinner digestif (serve it over ice) or tote it along to a holiday party for favored guest status. Either way, you’ll be toasting the New Year in style—sweet, rich style.

DIY Irish Cream Liqueur
Makes roughly 1 quart

1 ½ cups whiskey
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon honey
2 teaspoons espresso powder
2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Put all the ingredients in a blender and mix on high speed until blended. Pour into a glass or non-reactive jar and refrigerate. Stir before serving. This mixture can keep for up to two weeks.
