There’s something about the beach and the summer that makes you want to pick up a book.
And if you’re so inclined, why not pick up a book about wine?! There are a bunch of good ones out but here are three we loved! If you’re reading something awesome — let us know! We’ll start a little wine book club.
Here are our three picks!
Vertical: Passion and Pinot on the Oregon Wine Trail
By Rex Pickett
Sideways fans rejoice! Miles and Jack are back!!!
If you were a fan of the 2004 movie that (sort of) put Pinot Noir on the map and (basically) took Merlot off, then you will love this book.
Sideways’ main characters, Miles and Jack, are back in Vertical: Passion and Pinot on the Oregon Wine Trail. This time they are traveling to Oregon’s Willamette Valley for the International Pinot Noir Celebration.
Jack is still hysterical and Miles is still super serious. And while there’s less about the girls and sex (sorry) and more about Miles and his journey to find himself, his elderly, sort of handicapped Mother joins the trip with her Filipino, pot smoking caretaker, which totally amps up the comedy.
American Wino: A Tale of Reds, Whites, and One Man's Blues
By Dan Dunn
Laugh out loud, at least that’s what we did. Dunn is a former Playboy magazine nightlife columnist Dan Dunn who has a made a career out of drinking and writing about spirits (so we love him already). But after a bunch of life’s curve balls, he decides to hop in his car and traverse America on a mission to learn about wine and taste it in every state.
He channels Hunter S. Thompson perfectly, for all you American Lit majors out there, as you get to know him, and the wines produced across our great nation.
So take front seat in his car on his 15,000-mile road trip from California to New Jersey — yes, Jersey actually makes decent wine — and hang out with him as meets drinks with guys like Kurt Russell at his winery in California and Charles Smith up in Washington State.
Super fun read.
Rosé Wine: The Guide to Drinking Pink
Jen is super smart and yet super approachable and it shows in her writing. Plus, her book is the perfect size to throw in your beach bag.
One of the great parts of the book is the quiz around page 50 that helps you figure out the exact kind of Rosé your taste buds will like love the most. (Isn’t it funny that we love to take quizzes when we’re not in school?)
And since you’re probably going to be drinking Rosé on the beach anyway, why not really learn about what you’re drinking!
