The Ancient Greeks Invented Democracy

In the midst of this ..uh...interesting...political time, it makes sense to raise a glass and remember that the Greeks created democracy 4,000 years ago.

And we’re guessing that wine must have played a role in all those ancient political discussions.

We’ve covered some of the Greek whites before but as a refresher, Greece has about 350 indigenous varietals. And there are four flagship grapes: Assyrtiko, Moschofilero (both whites) and Agiorgitiko and Xinomavro (both reds).  You get an extra glass of wine if you can pronounce them (hint: the ‘g’ sounds like a ‘y’).

Or just check out the Wines of Greece. You can sign up to receive a monthly newsletter and they’ll put you in a drawing to win $100 toward dinner at your favorite restaurant with Greek wine. (We love free stuff.)
