In the midst of this ..uh...interesting...election season, it makes sense to raise a glass and remember that the Greeks created democracy 4,000 years ago.
And we’re guessing that wine must have played a role in all those ancient political discussions.
We’ve covered some of the Greek whites before but as a refresher, Greece has about 350 indigenous varietals. And there are four flagship grapes: Assyrtiko, Moschofilero (both whites) and Agiorgitiko and Xinomavro (both reds). You get an extra glass of wine if you can pronounce them (hint: the ‘g’ sounds like a ‘y’).
Or just check out the Wines of Greece. You can sign up to receive a monthly newsletter and they’ll put you in a drawing to win $100 toward dinner at your favorite restaurant with Greek wine. (We love free stuff.)
Greek wines may not help you decide who to vote for, but they’ll certainly make this election season much more palatable.
