Social Time for Pets and Owners

yappyhour_01It used to be, if you went out for happy hour, your pooch stayed home. But now, some cool places across the country have made cocktail hour pet-friendly. They’ve designed special events so humans and animals alike can enjoy their favorite beverages--together. There are many such places, but we found five with regular Yappy-Happy Hours where two leggeds and four leggeds co-mingle. Here they are:

Doggy Happy Hour
The Hotel Monaco in Alexandria, Virginia, welcomes both locals and hotel guests for a weekly dog and human party. Dogs get free treats while humans can sip something from the bar. Doggy Happy Hour is weather permitting and held Thursdays at 5pm April through October.

Pooches on the Patio
Union Pub in Washington DC is the place to be Saturdays for happy hour if you own a dog. Dogs get treats and water, while dog owners can wet their whistles with beverages like Flying Dog Tire Bit Golden Ale and Dogtail Vineyards wine, plus indulge in foods like, ahem, corndogs.

Fancy Yappy Hour
For the doggie upper crust, the Ritz-Carlton in Laguna Niguel, California, holds a monthly canine-friendly cocktail hour. Pets are served homemade biscuits and water infused with bacon, beef and liver. The event supports the Wounded Veterans Initiative of Canine Companions for Independence.

Two- and Four-Legged Fun
In Bluffton, South Carolina, the Bluffton Dog Park organization holds Yappy Hours, serving beer, wine, burgers and treats for pets and their owners at rotating locations. At a recent event, dogs were treated to Dogleto, a special peanut butter gelato for furry friends.
