Spring Season, Spring Wines

Spring Season, Spring Wines

spring_wine_3107078_01Forget the groundhog and his dumb shadow and pretend there are no spring showers. Instead, spring into spring by changing up your wine selections. Sure, it might still be cold and snow might still follow, but channel your inner spring mood and the season of bloom with some non-cold-weather wines.

We’re locking up the big reds and the belly-warming whiskey and pulling out some fruity, grassy, ready-to-spring-forward stuff you might have had in hibernation all winter. Even if it’s not totally toasty outside, you can drink like it is and keep an imaginary sun shining inside with your wine choice.

Here are our suggestions to celebrate the change of season:

As you ponder mowing the lawn, try the grape variety viura--a fresh and springy alternative to sauvignon blanc.
DINASTIA VIVANCO Rioja Blanca 2012 (Rioja, Spain) $15

A right of passage to spring: put the sweaters and mittens away and pull out the rosé.
DOMAINE DE SAINT SER Rosé 2011 (Provence, France) $21
BLACKBIRD VINEYARDS “Arriviste” Rosé 2012 (Napa Valley, CA) $25

The upside of celebrating spring’s arrival through wine: summer is right around the corner people.
