San Diego wine bars are all about the ambiance and great food pairings, as well as the wine in your glass. It’s hard to go wrong, but here are a few of our favorites.
Best Neighborhood Bar: Romeo and Julieta: We would have loved to name this bar the Most Romantic Wine Bar, it’s such a great neighborhood spot that we had to give it the Good Neighbor prize. Passionate owners, delicious food and a crazy extensive wine list make this a place you’ll want to add to your regular rotation.
Best Bar for Novices: Vin de Syrah Spirit & Wine Parlor: Part club part wine bar, it’s a great place for the new wine fan--the wine menu has helpful descriptions underneath each listing, and if you get overwhelmed by the wine, there’s a cocktail and a live dj waiting for you.
Most Romantic Bar: Wet Stone Wine Bar: Candles, cozy corners and small plates perfect for sharing set the scene for a fail-proof date. The short, navigable wine list focuses on up-and-coming regions, including places you never knew made wine, like Montenegro.
Best Bang for your Buck: The Rose Wine Pub: A favorite for its relaxed ambiance, delicious pizza and affordable wine. The wines by the glass are reasonably priced, and happy hour is daily (none of this weekday only junk).
Most Eclectic Wine List: Village Vino: Their wine list covers every corner of the wine-growing globe, from classic to unheard of. Every wine lover will find a wine that resonates with him on this carefully crafted list.
